Death Valley, California, USA (2016)
DDeath Valley is a desert located in California, USA. It is one of the hottest places in the world. I kid you not! The temperature was 50°C the day we drove through Death Valley. And spent the night in Furnace Creek, a small resort/hotel complex slap bang in the middle of the desert. Thank goodness they had a nice large swimming pool for us to cool down in. Plus the mandatory cold beers and few whiskeys with lots of ice cubes just to keep things chilled.
I have always wanted to see Death Valley. We have driven past it a few times but never planned a road trip that goes through it. Still want to go back and spend a few days in the park to fully explore the whole area with my camera. But will plan it so that we do not do it in the middle of summer. That was just crazy on our part. Think we stopped 3 times for photos before we got to Furnace Creek. And all 3 times I only managed to spend 5 min max outside the car before I needed to get out of the sun and heat.
If you ever plan on driving through Death Valley, make sure that you check your car to make sure its 100% roadworthy. And pack lots of cold drinks and water for the trip. I can imagine that this is not a fun place to break down. Be it winter or summer!
